Colbert confronts KJP.
Late-night liberal darling Stephen Colbert went off-script Monday night, grilling former press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre over boss Joe Biden’s mental decline and the Democrats’ betrayal of their own president.
“It was very personal for those of us who watched it too, because it was a shock to our system to see that,” Colbert said, recalling Biden’s disastrous debate performance. “I mean, you’re talking to a guy who helped raise $25 million for Joe Biden in March of that same year. And three months later, I saw a guy who I had not seen backstage at the benefit that I did. It seemed like a dramatically different person.”
Jean-Pierre tried to defend her former boss, claiming she saw Biden “every day” and that he was still capable of governing. But her tone was weary. In her new book Independent, she confessed she couldn’t “stomach” being part of the party machine that pushed Biden aside.
Colbert didn’t let up. “I’m not questioning his heart or his policies, but it takes more than that to be the president of the United States,” he said. “In a moment of great pressure on stage, we saw someone shock us and worry us. … I don’t think it was necessarily a betrayal of Joe Biden as other people saying, ‘We don’t think we were shown the Joe Biden that you saw.’”
Jean-Pierre reluctantly agreed the debate was “disappointing.”
Colbert shot back: “Disappointment is such a light term. It was harrowing.”
For a comedian who spent years mocking Trump, the irony was rich. Now even Hollywood can’t hide what America already knows — Joe Biden wasn’t fit to lead, and the truth finally broke through the laughter.
