A Philadelphia school crossing guard is going wildly viral after rescuing a child from a crash scene — then casually delivering one of the most unforgettable local TV interviews in recent memory while repeatedly licking an ice cream cone.
Jamele Ransom was working outside an elementary school in southwest Philadelphia on Tuesday afternoon when a stolen truck allegedly blew through a red light and slammed into an SUV near a playground.
What happened next turned Ransom into an instant online sensation.
“I tell you, he ran the red light, T-boned the lady,” Ransom recalled during an animated interview shortly after the crash, his crossing-guard cap tilted sideways as he reenacted the chaos.
“I’m bobbing and weaving,” he said while shimmying side to side to demonstrate how he dodged danger moments before impact.
The internet quickly exploded over the surreal contrast: a man describing a terrifying near-death moment while coolly taking licks from an ice cream cone between sentences.
But beneath the viral humor was real heroism.
“I had to pull a kid out!” Ransom said, explaining that a child was trapped inside one of the wrecked vehicles after the collision.
“I grab a kid out, because he’s stuck, frantic, pull him out,” he said. “Then I run out and get myself together because my heart is boom, boom, boom, boom.”
Ransom said he believes he narrowly avoided being struck himself because he had stepped into the shade moments earlier on what he described as an “82-degree day.”
That also explained the now-famous ice cream cone.
“I’m just thankful. Thankful to be alive right now. Thank you, Jesus!” he said before taking another lick from the cone.
Social media users immediately crowned him an instant legend, with many praising both his quick actions and his completely unbothered energy during the interview.
The crossing guard repeatedly summed up the ordeal with the same stunned reaction:
“Cray — crazy!”
His adrenaline, he admitted, was still pumping.
But somehow, so was the vibe.
