A Minnesota Republican is turning up the heat on Rep. Ilhan Omar after the congresswoman skipped a key hearing tied to a massive pandemic-era fraud scandal.
State Rep. Kristin Robbins is now demanding answers — and documents — after Omar failed to appear before the House Fraud Prevention and State Agency Oversight Committee.
“Minnesotans… were disappointed that you failed to appear,” Robbins wrote in an April 22 letter, pressing Omar to explain her absence and provide records tied to the investigation.
At issue: the sprawling “Feeding Our Future” case, which has drawn national scrutiny over alleged abuse of federal child nutrition funds during the COVID era.
Robbins is requesting a sweeping set of materials from Omar’s office, including emails, texts, and meeting records related to her promotion of expanded access to those programs.
The request also zeroes in on Omar’s public support of a Minneapolis restaurant later linked to the program.
During a Somali-language TV appearance, Omar highlighted Safari Restaurant as a meal distribution site — a moment now under renewed scrutiny.
Lawmakers replayed that clip during this week’s hearing as they examined potential ties between Omar and individuals in the local Somali community connected to the case.
Robbins is also seeking any communications between Omar and figures charged or implicated in the investigation, including nonprofit founder Aimee Bock and other alleged co-conspirators.
Despite repeated outreach, Robbins says the committee has received nothing.
“She didn’t even respond, ghosted us,” Robbins said, arguing that Omar’s legislation helped create the conditions that allowed the fraud to flourish.
