ROUGH MORNING: Joe and Mika React to Backlash from Their Sitdown With Donald Trump [WATCH]

Scarborough says there is a “massive disconnect.”

During Tuesday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC hosts Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski reacted to the intense backlash within the social media sphere and the media mob over their sit-down meeting with Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago last week.

…after calling him a “fascist” and comparing him to Hitler leading up to the election.

Most reactions were negative — from both sides of the political spectrum. But Scarborough says that what was reported wasn’t reality.

“Yesterday, I saw for the first time what a massive disconnect there was between social media and the real world because we were flooded with phone calls from people all day, literally around the world, all very positive, very supportive, ‘I understand what you did,’ etc,” Scarborough said.

“But once in a while I would get a text or call from someone going, ‘Oh, man, I hope you’re doing okay,'” Scarborough added on Tuesday, referring to criticism the pair received on social media.

“All of us will do the best we can do, and we’re all working towards a better America,” Scarborough said.

Brzezinksi added, “Take it day by day, people.”

During Monday’s Morning Joe, MSNBC hosts and Trump critics Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski revealed they visited Mar-a-Lago for a meeting with Donald Trump — their first real discussion with the President-elect in seven years.

“Five years of political warfare has deeply divided Washington and the country. We have been as clear as we know how in expressing our deep concerns about President Trump’s actions and words in the coarsening of public debate,” Brzezinski said.

“But for nearly 80 million Americans, election denialism, public trials, January 6th were not as important as the issues that moved them to send Donald Trump back to the White House with their vote,” she continued.

“Joe and I realize it’s time to do something different, and that starts with not only talking about Donald Trump, but also talking with him,” she added.

Scarborough confirmed topics discussed included “abortion, mass deportation, and threats of political retribution against political opponents and media outlets.”

“We talked about that a good bit,” he said.

“It will come as no surprise to anybody who watches this show, has watched it over the past year or over the past decade, that we didn’t see eye to eye on a lot of issues and we told him so.”

Brzezinski then added, “What we did agree on was to restart communications.”
