President Trump confirmed this week that his administration is considering an executive order aimed at curbing “birthright citizenship” for babies of non-citizens; a move likely to spark a major showdown between the White House and the courts.
The President confirmed the potential policy in a recent interview with Axios, saying officials are reviewing the long-recognized understanding of the 14th Amendment; which states “All persons born or naturalized in the United States and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”
“It was always told to me that you needed a constitutional amendment. Guess what? You don’t,” Trump said. “You can definitely do it with an Act of Congress. But now they’re saying I can do it just with an executive order.”
“We’re the only country in the world where a person comes in and has a baby, and the baby is essentially a citizen of the United States … with all of those benefits,” he added.
CARAVAN CRISIS: Migrant Caravan Swells to 14,000, Heads Towards USA
The migrant caravan slowly making its way towards the United States’ southern border with Mexico continued to grow in recent days, with local reporters saying the marching immigrants are now estimated at 14,000 individuals.
According to Newsweek, the “caravan” is gradually gaining more members as it makes its way north towards American border crossings in Texas and California.
“In a series of tweets, President Donald Trump has unsuccessfully urged Guatemala, Honduras and El Salvador to halt the migrant caravan, which is believed to have reached more than 14,000 members in southern Mexico,” writes Newsweek.
The President has routinely warned the migrants to return to their home countries in recent days, saying “We are a great Sovereign Nation. We have Strong Borders and will never accept people coming into our Country illegally!”

CARAVAN CRISIS: Trump Considers Executive Order to ‘HALT ENTRY’ for 'Migrant Caravan'
President Trump and his top national security team are considering drastic measures to “halt entry” for thousands of undocumented migrants slowly making their way towards the United States; proposing an executive order that would block “nearly all” Central American asylum seekers.
According to NBC News, “The Trump administration is drafting an executive action that would make it exceedingly difficult for Central Americans seeking asylum to gain entry at the U.S.-Mexico border, according to three sources familiar with the proposed measures.”
“They have been drafted as President Donald Trump and his national security adviser, John Bolton, have grown increasingly frustrated with the number of migrants arriving at the southern border and the Honduran migrant caravan currently making its way to the U.S,” adds the article.
The “migrant caravan” picked up thousands of additional immigrants as they traveled through Central America and into Mexico.
The group is approximately 1,000 miles from the United States and is expected to reach the southern border within weeks.
