Americans are continuing to catch a break at the pump, with gas prices falling to their lowest level in more than three months despite recent military exchanges between the United States and Iran.
The national average price for a gallon of regular gasoline dropped to $3.86 on Monday, down nearly 7 cents from a week ago, according to AAA. It’s the lowest national average since March 19, when regular gas sold for $3.88 per gallon.
The decline comes even after the recent tit-for-tat military strikes between Washington and Tehran, easing fears that conflict in the Middle East would immediately send fuel prices soaring.
Gas prices have now fallen sharply from their 2026 peak of $4.564 per gallon on May 21 — a decline of more than 70 cents in just over five weeks. Aside from a negligible one-day uptick last week, national prices have steadily trended downward.
The pace of those declines, however, has slowed.
Monday’s average was virtually unchanged from Sunday’s, suggesting prices may be beginning to stabilize after weeks of rapid declines. Over the past month alone, the national average has fallen roughly 53 cents from $4.391 per gallon.
The lower prices still weren’t enough to satisfy President Donald Trump.
Speaking from the Oval Office last week, Trump accused major oil companies of failing to pass along lower energy costs to consumers and suggested gasoline should already be selling for roughly $2.25 per gallon nationwide.
“We should be, in my opinion, at $2.25 right now at the pump, and we’re higher than that,” Trump said. “And we are doing a big investigation on it, yeah. They’re not reducing the prices commensurate with … what’s happening.”
Trump also shared a post on TRUTH Social Monday morning, encouraging Americans to report any price gouging on gas at the retail level.

“WTI CRUDE – $69, and heading down. This is less than it was prior to the start of the Denuclearization of Iran!“
