Texas House Democrat Gene Wu is facing backlash after comments resurfaced in which he urged minority groups in Texas to unite against “the same oppressor” to “take over this country” and “make things fairer.”
Wu made the remarks on the Define American podcast with journalist Jose Antonio Vargas in December 2024, according to the interview clip circulating online.
It’s not clear what Wu meant by “take over.”
But after the clip spread on X, Republicans and other high-profile commentators blasted the language as divisive and extreme.
