POST OP-ED: Zohran Mamdani Wants to Run From the Kooky DSA Agenda — But The Crazy is Hard to Hide

Is Zohran Mamdani a Democrat Socialists of America loyalist or not?

As best we can tell, it depends who he’s talking to — a fellow believer or the voting public.

He’s bragged that all his ideas “emanate” from the DSA, but is desperately rushing to distance himself from most of the loony DSA program of social and economic revolution.

“My platform is not the same as national DSA or any DSA organization,” he now insists, but told the opposite story less than a year ago: “I have spent the last four years being a DSA elected official,” he proudly announced at an event recruiting new members in November.

“DSA is a political home for me and thousands of New Yorkers.”

Only now is he expressing any sense of distance from the local DSA agenda, and he still won’t say that any part of it is outright wrong. Will he say anything now that he is within touching distance of getting elected?

DSA-NYC has scrubbed its website of its kooky priorities, but archived versions from 2021 — after it elected Mamdani to the Assembly — call for decriminalizing all drugs; letting illegal immigrants vote and hold elected office; seizing private land to build public housing; dealing with 26-year-old criminals as youth offenders; and letting minors have sex changes without parental consent.

For starters.

He now claims he doesn’t want to defund the police, but as recently as April 2024, DefundNYPD, an official DSA website, boldly proclaimed, “It’s time to defund the NYPD and refund the people!” and demanded “Cut NYPD budget & police force by 50% … Close Rikers, No New Jails, Free Them All.”

All this with a cartoon of a piggy bank dressed like a cop with X’s for eyes, a body smashed to pieces and a badge reading “ACAB” — “All Cops Are Bastards.”

This is the outfit that made Mamdani — his “home” for his entire political career and the inevitable source for most City Hall staff if he wins this fall.

Even today, NewYorkSocialistsInOffice.com, a live DSA site that features Mamdani as an endorsing member, advertises on its front page: “Defund the NYPD.”

Mamdani’s campaign says his platform is separate from the DSA agenda; the NYC-DSA says that its “shared values do not mean Zohran adopts” every DSA position.

OK, so does he reject its positions? Has he decided (and when?), for instance, that minors shouldn’t get sex changes without parental consent?

Mamdani’s refusal to speak to any specifics is damning.

If he won’t explicitly reject any of the DSA’s radical positions, voters must assume he still believes in all of them.

He’s just hoping he can keep wearing that smile and they won’t notice his true intentions until the morning of Nov. 5.
