In an unusual and bizarre move, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez demanded she be sworn-in during a Congressional hearing on border security Friday; leaving Chairman Elijah Cummings confused before the entire committee.
“Mr. Chair, I would like to be sworn in,” said Rep. Ocasio-Cortez.
“I’m sorry?” asked Rep. Cummings.
“I would like to be sworn in,” she repeated.
“We usually don’t require a swearing in, but you want to be sworn in?” asked Cummings again.
“Yes,” demanded Ocasio-Cortez.
“Alright, ummmm. Ok,” said the Chair.
Ocasio-Cortez found herself at the center of another national controversy this week; posting instructions for illegal immigrants on how best to avoid ICE raids.
“ICE will launch raids across 10 major cities this SUNDAY. Check your neighbors & know your rights. Remember: no one can enter your home without a *judicial warrant.* Sometimes ICE will try to show other papers to get in your house. Judicial warrants are from a court,” posted AOC on social media.
“No matter who you are or what your status is, this is the United States of America – where ALL people have rights. Know yours. Prepare. Visit (link: http://WeHaveRights.US) WeHaveRights.US to learn how to handle this & other ICE encounters in multiple languages,” she added. “f people come knocking, you do NOT have to open your door unless there is a signed judicial warrant. AOC STRIKES BACK: Rips Pelosi for Knocking Far-Left Dems’ ‘Twitter World’
Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez fired back at Nancy Pelosi over the weekend after the House Speaker criticized her and other far-left freshmen congresswomen for voting against a $4.6 billion border bill that President Trump signed into law on Monday.
Congress had approved the bill with help from several moderate Democrats – and in a NYT interview, Pelosi slammed the progressive wing of her party for not also supporting the humanitarian-assistance measure.
“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi said. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”
That public “whatever” is called public sentiment.
And wielding the power to shift it is how we actually achieve meaningful change in this country. https://t.co/u6JtgwwRsk

Ocasio-Cortez argued that Democrats cannot trust the Trump administration not to divert money for humanitarian aid toward immigration enforcement — a comment that comes after the President acknowledged that ICE raids would begin after the Fourth of July.
“I don’t believe it was a good idea for Dems to blindly trust the Trump admin when so many kids have died in their custody. It’s a huge mistake,” Ocasio-Cortez tweeted Saturday, echoing comments she made to CNN following the June vote on border funding.
AOC also defended the use of social media by herself and her fellow newcomers to Congress, over the more traditional – and often more expensive and time-consuming — methods favored by longer-serving lawmakers.
“I find it strange when members act as though social media isn’t important,” Ocasio-Cortez wrote. “They set millions of [dollars] on [fire] to run TV ads so people can see their message.
“I haven’t dialed for dollars *once* this year,” she added, “& have more time to do my actual job. Yet we’d rather campaign like it’s 2008.”
DEMS IMPLODING: Ocasio-Cortez Says ‘Disrespectful’ Pelosi is ‘Singling Out Women of Color’
The escalating tension between Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the liberal wing of the Democratic Party took a dramatic turn this week; with Rep. Ocasio-Cortez accusing the leader of “singling out women of color.”
“When these comments first started, I kind of thought that she was keeping the progressive flank at more of an arm’s distance in order to protect more moderate members, which I understood,” Ocasio-Cortez told the Washington Post.
“But the persistent singling out … it got to a point where it was just outright disrespectful … the explicit singling out of newly elected women of color,” she added.
Pelosi has routinely dismissed far-left proposals such as the Green New Deal or moving forward on impeaching President Trump.
“All these people have their public whatever and their Twitter world,” Pelosi said earlier this week. “But they didn’t have any following. They’re four people and that’s how many votes they got.”
“You got a complaint? You come and talk to me about it. But do not tweet about our members and expect us to think that that is just OK,” Pelosi told the liberal lawmakers during a closed-door meeting at the US Capitol.
Rep. Dan Crenshaw weighed-in on the growing controversy Thursday, writing “Madam Speaker, welcome to the true nature of identity politics – where you’re accused of being racist for no reason at all, and where intellectually lazy insults are used against you as a way to replace substantive debate of your argument or idea.”

Ocasio-Cortez found herself in more hot-water Thursday after posting instructions on how illegal immigrants can evade impending ICE raids.
