According to a report from CBS News, former Mayor and Democratic presidential candidate Bill de Blasio will have to repay $500,000 in fines to the city for misusing the NYPD during his failed presidential run back in 2020.
From CBS News:
Former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio was fined $155,000 and ordered to repay more for allegedly having the city cover his NYPD detail’s travel expenses on dozens of presidential campaign trips outside New York.
It is the largest fine ever imposed by the New York City Conflicts of Interest Board.
De Blasio will have to pay nearly $500,000 to cover the fine and repayments after the board determined the former mayor “misused City resources” on 31 out-of-state political trips.
de Blasio was also hit with a $53,000 fine last month.
According to The New York Post, “A nonpartisan ethics watchdog on Monday hailed the Federal Election Commission’s earlier decision to impose a $53,100 fine on committees tied to former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio’s failed 2020 presidential campaign.”
“The FEC’s report detailing the de Blasio fine, which was handed down last month, was among a handful of closed cases that were officially made public late last week.”
What a mess.
