PARADISE LOST: Venezuelans See ‘SURGE’ in Suicides as Food, Water, Medicine Disappears

posted by Hannity Staff - 10.24.18

Desperate residents and starving citizens continued their daily struggle to survive in Venezuela’s crumbling economy in recent weeks, with aid staffers and doctors seeing a massive “surge” in suicides across the impoverished country.

“A record surge of suicides in troubled Venezuela is wearing down doctors who work at the university hospital in the Andean state of Merida. People who have tried to kill themselves arrive at an uncertain rhythm that breeds dread in the professionals who receive them,” writes Bloomberg.

“We live between terror and impotence,” said one doctor. “We constantly think we can’t do what we should in the moment we’re able to, and we’re terrified that patients commit suicide and there’s nothing we can do for them.”

“It’s a cocktail, a multitude of factors that have all converged,” added another doctor; blaming the trend on a lack of psychiatric medicine, fears of starvation, separated families, and widespread poverty.

“There wasn’t anything left to sell, nothing, not even a piece of candy,” said the wife of a man who recently took his own life. “Everything was going wrong. He felt like a prisoner. I figure it forced him to make a decision.”

MAN OF THE PEOPLE: Venezuela’s Maduro Dines on $100 Steak, Smokes Cigars as Nation Starves

posted by Hannity Staff - 9.18.18

Venezuelan Socialist President Nicolas Maduro was caught on camera eating a $100 steak and smoking lavish cigars during a recent trip to Asia; infuriating millions of starving residents struggling with a collapsing economy and vanishing food supplies.

According to Bloomberg, images of Maduro dining at a famous steak restaurant in Turkey went viral on social media within minutes. The socialist president was traveling back from China where he sought aid for his impoverished nation.

“Maduro visited Nusr-Et, known for its $100 rib-eye, after making an official trip to China in hopes of securing financing for cash-strapped Venezuela. In videos posted by Nusret to Twitter and Instagram, Maduro is seen eating steak next to his wife, Cilia Flores, while also holding a cigar and trying on a t-shirt depicting Nusret, also known as Salt Bae and famous for how he prepares and seasons steaks,” writes Bloomberg.

Venezuela is struggling to clampdown on a devastating financial crisis. Recent reports say nearly 79% of the nation’s residents are unable to “feed themselves” on a daily basis.

ON THE BRINK: Venezuela Accuses Colombia of Harboring Anti-Maduro ‘Assassins’

posted by Hannity Staff - 10.08.18

Venezuela’s socialist leaders slammed the Colombian government Monday; directly accusing the neighboring nation of “shielding” anti-Maduro assassins seeking to overthrow the brutal regime.

According to Yahoo News, Caracas released an official statement blasting Colombia’s government of placing “Colombian institutions at the service of obscure and unspeakable interests against the government of Venezuela, endorsing and supporting all sorts of actions and conspiracies.”

Venezuela believes Colombian-backed agents were behind a failed assassination attempt earlier this year that utilized aerial drones to attack President Maduro during a military parade in the nation’s capital.

“Colombia has taken in more than half the 1.9 million refugees the United Nations says have fled Venezuela since 2015 as the collapse of the economy — under an increasingly authoritarian Maduro — led to dire shortages of food and medicine,” adds Yahoo.
