Oregon Congressman Earl Blumenauer deflected national criticism of the ongoing violence sweeping Portland, Oregon Tuesday; saying the city is “not out of control” and there are just “some people who have strong feelings.”
“Portland, Oregon is not out of control. There are some people who have strong feelings, and there are some who have done things that are inappropriate… But that’s the challenge of our local officials to handle it!” said Rep. Earl Blumenauer.
“Not having someone unwelcome, uninvited, and unprepared coming in and taking this difficult situation and making it worse,” he added.

The Portland Police Department struggled to contain another night of civil unrest in the city Monday; confirming officers were repeatedly attacked with glass bottles and ball bearings.
“Members of the crowd are still not dispersing despite numerous orders to leave and opportunities to do so,” posted the Department on Twitter. “To those on N Fenwick/Lombard, disperse to the North. This has been declared a riot and you are being ordered to disperse.”
