In a Sunday night TRUTH Social post, President Donald Trump claimed Denmark has failed to deal with what he called the “Russian threat” near Greenland — and declared the time for action has arrived.
“NATO has been telling Denmark, for 20 years, that ‘you have to get Russian threat away from Greenland.’ Unfortunately, Denmark has been unable to do anything about it. Now it is time, and it will be done!!!”
Trump has repeatedly insisted he’ll settle for nothing less than ownership of Greenland, the massive autonomous territory governed by Denmark.
But leaders in Denmark and Greenland have been clear: the island isn’t for sale, and they say residents don’t want to join the United States. Still, Trump is cranking the pressure.
He’s threatened a wave of increasing tariffs on European allies until the U.S. is allowed to buy Greenland — turning a territorial demand into a trade fight.
Trump’s argument: Greenland is now central to U.S. security, with China and Russia encroaching in the Arctic.

Meanwhile, European leaders are in talks to deploy their most powerful economic weapon, the anti-coercion instrument — informally known as the “trade bazooka” — to counter President Donald Trump’s threats.
According to The Washington Examiner, the Anti-Coercion Instrument provides a legal framework for the bloc to defend its sovereign policy choices against any non-EU country using economic intimidation, like tariffs or quotas, to interfere with EU affairs.
