NOT A JOKE: New Jersey to Implement ‘RAIN TAX’ on Homeowners, Businesses for Bad Weather

New Jersey -one of the highest taxed states in the USA- is poised to implement a so-called ‘Rain Tax,’ a new measure that would allow the government to tax businesses and homeowners for damages to the region’s “storm water utilities.”

“Save it for a rainy day. Some of your hard-earned dollars may be taken away as the weather turns ugly and rain drops fall on the Garden State. A new bill calls for the creation of local or regional storm water utilities, giving local counties and municipalities the power to collect a tax from properties with large paved surfaces such as parking lots,” writes CBS New York.

“That’s businesses and homeowners,” adds the report. “The bill passed in the Senate and the Assembly and is now headed to Gov. Phil Murphy’s desk.”

The state’s move to tax water echoes similar proposals from California; who plan to tax residents “drinking water” should they consume more than regulated by law.

BLUE STATE BLUES: More Americans FLEE NEW JERSEY Than Any Other State in the Nation

More Americans are packing their bags and fleeing New Jersey than any other state in the nation; according to new data released by United Van Lines.

“More people moved out of the Garden State in 2018 than any other state, according to a new study by United Van Lines – though New York wasn’t far behind,” writes the New York Post.

“The Northeast region continues to see more residents leaving than moving in, with 57 percent of all moves within the Northeast US being outbound moves,” said the report released by the moving company.

The study found that 66.8% of those moving to or from New Jersey were “outbound,” followed by Illinois, Connecticut, and New York.

“Vermont – whose population is the second-smallest in the nation — was the only Northeast state that made the ‘most moved to’ list, topping the list with 72.6 percent of its movers making inbound migrations,” adds the Post.

The Democratic Governor of New Jersey Phil Murphy unveiled his vision for the state’s proposed budget Wednesday; raising taxes on “everything” in a bid to save the Garden State from ballooning debt and massive budget deficits.

Murphy -the liberal politician who replaced outgoing governor and presidential nominee Chris Christie- plans to fund the state’s record-setting $37.4 billion budget by increasing taxes on nearly everything, including: gambling, ride-sharing services, marijuana, tobacco, online sales, retail sales, and more.

The budget also increases spending for education, transportation services, and state-wide pension funds.

“If we enact another budget like the one our administration inherited, our middle class will continue to be the ones shouldering the burden, while seeing little in return,” Murphy said Tuesday. “A millionaire’s tax is the right thing to do… and now is the time to do it.”

“The proposal, 4.2 percent higher than the current fiscal year’s, relies on a tax for the wealthiest that has yet to be approved and lacks support from key Democrats in the legislature,” writes Bloomberg. “It also reverses pledges from Murphy’s predecessor, Republican Chris Christie, to lower taxes in a state where living costs are among the nation’s highest.”
