Police in San Ramon said seven suspects were arrested after nearly 25 people ransacked Heller Jewelers in broad daylight Monday, stealing an estimated $1 million in merchandise.
The robbery unfolded at City Center Bishop Ranch when suspects armed with at least three guns stormed the store, smashing display cases with crowbars and pickaxes.
“When they went in, they basically took over the store,” Lt. Mike Pistello of the San Ramon Police Department said. “Basically taking whatever jewelry was available.”
Cellphone video captured suspects locked inside at one point. Police said at least one suspect fired multiple rounds to break open the reinforced glass door and escape.
The door had been part of a security upgrade installed after a 2023 robbery, requiring a guard to press a button to let people out.
