Fresh internal polling is shedding stunning new light on the neck-and-neck race shaping up in New Jersey; with GOP candidate Bob Hugin pulling within two points of incumbent Democratic Sen. Bob Menendez.
“With just over three weeks until Election Day, our latest internal campaign survey continues to show Bob Hugin and Bob Menendez in a statistical dead heat,” says a new memo released by National Research Inc.
The recent survey has “Hugin at 40% and Menendez at 42%.”
“That result comes after a telephone survey of 600 likely voters — a pool of 31 percent Republicans, 45 percent Democrats, and 24 percent unaffiliated voters. Those are encouraging numbers coming out of state that hasn’t elected a Republican senator since the early days of the Reagan administration. A two point deficit could stand between Republicans and another seat in the Senate,” writes the Washington Examiner.
The new poll may spell disaster for Democrats hoping to retake the Senate this November, with Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer vowing to repeal the GOP ‘tax scam’ in the solidly blue state of New Jersey.

MENENDEZ MISTRIAL: The Liberal Senator WALKS After Jury Deadlock
A federal judge presiding over New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez’ bribery case has officially declared a mistrial, releasing jurors after they failed twice to reach a unanimous decision over the liberal legislator’s prosecution, reports Fox News.
“There’s no alternative to declaring a mistrial,” U.S. District Court Judge William Walls said Thursday.
The judge’s decision comes hours after jurors notified the court they were at an impasse, with both sides digging and neither believing they could be convinced otherwise.
“I think we have a for-real hung jury,” said Menendez’ attorney Abbe Lowell.
It remains unclear if federal prosecutors will re-file paperwork and bring another trial before a new jury, citing escalating costs and no guarantee that a future case would yield a conviction of the liberal Senator.
Menendez was accused of bribery, securing visas for foreign visitors, flying in private jets on donation funds, and accepting tens of thousands of dollars in questionable finances.
Should the Democratic lawmaker decide to step-down, outgoing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie will appoint his successor.

Video of the incident emerged on social media within minutes, with the National Republican Senatorial Committee writing, “LIVE LOOK at @HillaryClinton trying to save @SenatorMenendez. (Spoiler alert: she crashes.) #NJSen.”
