According to a CBS News 60 Minutes report, American taxpayers are footing the bill for more than just weapons and military aid for the war in Ukraine —a lot more.
The following was revealed during Sunday night’s 60 Minutes broadcast.
“American taxpayers are financing more than just weapons. We discovered the U.S. government’s buying seeds and fertilizer for Ukrainian farmers… and covering the salaries of Ukraine’s first responders – all 57,000 of them,” CBS reported. “That includes the team that trains this rescue dog – named Joy – to comb through the wreckage of Russian strikes looking for survivors.”
“And the U.S. also funds the divers who we saw clearing unexploded ammunition from the country’s rivers – to make them safe again for swimming and fishing,” the segment continued. “Russia’s invasion shrank Ukraine’s economy by about a third. We were surprised to find that to keep it afloat the U.S. government is subsidizing small businesses.”
Many House GOP members have had enough of sending billions to Ukraine, including Kentucky Senator Rand Paul.
“I rise to put the leadership of the House, the Senate, and the president of the United States on notice. I will not consent to any expedited passage of any spending bill that provides any more American aid to Ukraine,” Paul said in a press release from Sept. 20. “It’s as if no one has noticed that we have no extra money to send to Ukraine. Our deficit this year will exceed $1.5 trillion.”
