Over the weekend, President Trump took questions from the press about possible replacements for former National Security Advisor Mike Waltz, who has been nominated for a role as UN Ambassador.

One familiar Trump administration official came up.

“Stephen Miller at the top of the totem pole? I mean, I think he sort of indirectly already has that job… because he has a lot to say about a lot of things,” Trump said. “He’s a very valued person in the administration, Stephen Miller.”

Trump also reiterated that he did not lose confidence in Waltz following the Signal chat story last month.

“I didn’t lose confidence in him,” Trump said. “He’s going to the United Nations for a reason. To me, I think it’s personally, if I had assurance for myself… I’d rather have that job than the other.”

He also reiterated that Waltz did not resign, but instead, Trump moved him.

“There was no resignation,” the president said.

Waltz was ousted from his position last week; Trump quickly announced his new role as nominee for the UN Ambassador role.

“I am pleased to announce that I will be nominating Mike Waltz to be the next United States Ambassador to the United Nations,” Trump posted to Truth Social Thursday.

“From his time in uniform on the battlefield, in Congress and, as my National Security Advisor, Mike Waltz has worked hard to put our Nation’s Interests first. I know he will do the same in his new role. In the interim, Secretary of State Marco Rubio will serve as National Security Advisor, while continuing his strong leadership at the State Department. Together, we will continue to fight tirelessly to Make America, and the World, SAFE AGAIN. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
