Are you surprised even a little?
A recent Media Research Center (MRC) analysis reveals a significant disparity in how major networks covered recent presidential pardons.
Between January 20 and the morning of January 22, ABC, CBS, and NBC dedicated over 46 minutes to President Donald Trump’s pardons of January 6 defendants while allocating less than four minutes to former President Joe Biden’s preemptive pardons of his family members.
David Muir and ABC were among the worst offenders. “Good Morning America” and “World News Tonight” spent 15 minutes and 30 seconds on Trump’s pardons, compared to just 34 seconds on Biden’s.
CBS’s morning and evening newscasts devoted 16 minutes and 32 seconds to Trump’s actions and only 64 seconds to Biden’s.
NBC’s “Today” and “Nightly News” allocated 14 minutes and 30 seconds to Trump and less than two minutes to Biden.
On his first day back in office, President Trump pardoned over 1,500 individuals charged in connection with the January 6, 2021, Capitol riot — fulfilling a campaign promise.
During his final hours in office, Joe Biden issued preemptive pardons to several family members, including his brother, James Biden, and sister, Valerie Biden Owens. As early as 2020, Biden claimed he wouldn’t consider using preemptive pardons — another Biden lie.
Trump opened up about pardoning the Jan. 6 defendants last week during an exclusive Oval Office interview with Fox News host Sean Hannity.
“Why did they get a pardon?” Hannity asked.
“A number of reasons,” Trump said. “Number one, they were in there for 3-and-a-half years, a long time, and many in solitary confinement… treated so badly. They were treated like the worst criminals in history.”
“And you know what they were there for? They were protesting the vote,” he continued. “You should be allowed to protest a vote.”
Hannity said nobody should be allowed to “invade the Capitol,” but the president insisted they have served their time.
“These people have served, horribly, a long time,” Trump said, claiming most of the incidents with police were “minor.”
