Elon Musk’s Twitter is threatening to sue Mark Zuckerberg’s Meta over new app Threads.
According to a report from Semafor, Twitter is accusing Meta of poaching former Twitter employees to build a copycat application Threads.
Threads launched on Wednesday and reportedly already has more than 30M signups (some outlets are reporting more than 50M).
“Glad you’re all here on day one. Let’s build something great together!” Mark Zuckerberg posted on Threads. “The world needs a friendly public space for conversation. If we do this well, then Threads can be that space. We’re going to stay focused on that as our north star.”
And here come Twitter’s lawyers.
“Twitter intends to strictly enforce its intellectual property rights, and demands that Meta take immediate steps to stop using any Twitter trade secrets or other highly confidential information,” Twitter lawyer Alex Spiro wrote in a letter obtained exclusively by Semafor. “Twitter reserves all rights, including, but not limited to, the right to seek both civil remedies and injunctive relief without further notice to prevent any further retention, disclosure, or use of its intellectual property by Meta.”
Musk has been actively slamming Threads on Twitter:
