The left still doesn’t understand former President and 2024 candidate Donald Trump’s appeal —and they certainly don’t understand his supporters.
During Wednesday night’s CNN Town Hall, Trump took questions on a variety of topics and, in many cases, drew applause from the crowd.
…and it was blowing liberal minds.
Democratic-Socialist Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez tweeted “CNN should be ashamed.”
“CNN should be ashamed of themselves. They have lost total control of this “town hall” to again be manipulated into platforming election disinformation, defenses of Jan 6th, and a public attack on a sexual abuse victim. The audience is cheering him on and laughing at the host.”
“This falls squarely on CNN. Everyone here saw exactly what was going to happen. Instead they put a sexual abuse victim in harm’s way for views. This was a choice to platform lies about the election & Jan 6th w/ no plan but to have their moderator interrupted without consequence,” she added.

MSNBC host Mehdi Hasan also shared his outrage.
“I thought this #CNNTownhall with Trump would be bad but it’s much worse than I thought it would be,” Hasan tweeted. “The lack of follow-ups. The audience on his side. The mocking of a victim of sexual abuse. Sheesh.”

More from The New York Post:
New York Times’ 1619 Project author Nikole Hannah-Jones said CNN was “massively ill-equipped for this.”
Daily Beast’s Washington Bureau Chief Matt Fuller called it an “irresponsible disaster of journalism.”
Former CNN host and media reporter Brian Stelter cut town hall moderator Kaitlan Collins some slack, noting she’s a “great journalist. She has been assigned an impossible task.”
The crowd cheered in support of Trump many times throughout the night, including on comments related to Jan. 6 and the war in Ukraine.
