A leading Democrat publicly admitted that President Trump has “the ability” to declare a national emergency and build the wall this week; saying “the short answer is yes” when pressed on whether the Commander-in-Chief could use the military and construct the barrier.
Rep. Adam Smith -the chairman of the House Armed Service Committee- was speaking with ABC News when he made the stunning remark.
“Does President Trump have the ability, have the authority to declare a national emergency and have the military build his wall?” asked George Stephanopoulos.
“Well, unfortunately, the short answer is yes. There is a provision in the law that says the president can declare an emergency. It’s been done a number of times, but primarily it’s been done to build facilities in Afghanistan and Iraq,” said Smith.
