White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt fired back at a HuffPost reporter with a now-viral three-word answer: “Your mom did.”
The exchange came after Huff journo S.V. Dáte pressed the administration for details about who chose Budapest, Hungary, as the site for an upcoming meeting between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Dáte insinuated the choice was inappropriate, claiming Russia had once made false peace promises there in 1994.
But Leavitt didn’t take the bait.
When Dáte asked his “gotcha” question, she shot back: “Your mom did.”
White House Communications Director Steven Cheung doubled down with a one-liner of his own: “Your mom.”
The left-wing outlet published the exchange — and it backfired spectacularly.
Conservative commentator Steve Guest hailed the moment as “the most legendary response from the White House.”
Congratulations to HuffPost for eliciting the most legendary response from the White House.

Leavitt later clarified the full context, posting screenshots of the text thread and calling out Dáte’s bad-faith tactics: “For context, S.V. Dáte of the Huffington Post is not a journalist interested in the facts. He is a left-wing hack who has consistently attacked President Trump for years and constantly bombards my phone with Democrat talking points.”
She continued, “Just take a look at @svdate’s feed — it reads like an anti-Trump personal diary. … Activists who masquerade as real reporters do a disservice to the profession.”
