The City of Portland, Oregon will sever trade and travel to the state of Texas over a pro-life law that essentially bans most abortions after six weeks of pregnancy.
Mayor Ted Wheeler announced Friday that the city council will hold a vote as soon as Wednesday to assess “the City’s future procurement of goods and services from, and City employee business travel to, the state of Texas.”
“City legal counsel is currently evaluating the legal aspects of this proposed resolution,” stated a press release.
“This law rewards private individuals for exercising surveillance and control over others’ bodies. It violates the separation of church and state. And, it will force people to carry pregnancies against their will,” the council’s statement said.
“Portland City Council stands with the people who may one day face difficult decisions about pregnancy, and we respect their right to make the best decision for themselves.”

“This extreme Texas law blatantly violates the constitutional right established under Roe v. Wade and upheld as precedent for nearly half a century,” President Biden said in a statement last Wednesday.
“The Texas law will significantly impair women’s access to the health care they need, particularly for communities of color and individuals with low incomes,” Biden’s statement continued. “And, outrageously, it deputizes private citizens to bring lawsuits against anyone who they believe has helped another person get an abortion, which might even include family members, health care workers, front desk staff at a health care clinic, or strangers with no connection to the individual.”

BIDEN: Texas Abortion Law Impairs ‘Women’s Access to Health Care’
President Biden ripped a new Texas law Wednesday that would effectively prohibit nearly all abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, calling the legislation a “blatant violation of the Constitution.”
The bill bans the procedure if doctors can detect a fetal heartbeat.
“The Texas law is unusually drafted in that it forbids government officials from enforcing it, instead relying on the public to report allegations of abortions that do not comply with the law. The law calls for people bringing these claims to be awarded at least $10,000 if they are successful in court. Claims cannot be brought against women getting abortions, but they can be filed against those who perform them or assist women in getting them,” reports Fox News.

??????: AOC Says ‘Republicans Have Overturned Roe v Wade’
Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez rushed to Twitter Wednesday to falsely claim Republicans have ‘overturned’ Roe V Wade after the Supreme Court refused to hear a case regarding Texas’ latest pro-life law.
“Republicans promised to overturn Roe v Wade, and they have. Democrats can either abolish the filibuster and expand the court, or do nothing as millions of peoples’ bodies, rights, and lives are sacrificed for far-right minority rule. This shouldn’t be a difficult decision,” posted the far-left Representative.
AOC was referring to a 5-4 vote this week that allows Texas to enforce it’s so-called ‘Heartbeat’ Abortion Law. The bill effectively bans all abortions after doctors can detect a fetal heartbeat, typically occurring after six weeks of pregnancy.
Critics of the legislation claim many women are unaware of their pregnancies until that time.

“The court’s order is stunning,” liberal Justice Sonia Sotomayor wrote in a dissenting opinion.
“Presented with an application to enjoin a flagrantly unconstitutional law engineered to prohibit women from exercising their constitutional rights and evade judicial scrutiny, a majority of justices have opted to bury their heads in the sand.”
