JURY DELIBERATIONS UNDERWAY: 12 New Yorkers Will Make Historic Trump Trial Decision

posted by Hannity Staff - 5.29.24

The jury deliberations have begun in former President Donald Trump’s New York City hush money trial. It’s up to twelve New Yorkers to decide if the 2024 presidential frontrunner is guilty of a criminal offense.

From Axios:

Judge Juan Merchan instructed the jury to “set aside” their personal opinions about Trump as they consider the evidence in the case and to avoid speculating about Trump’s possible sentence, the CNN reported.

“If [the] people satisfy their burden of proof you must find the defendant guilty,” Merchan said, explaining that it is the prosecution’s job to prove Trump’s guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.

Merchan also warned the jury not to convict Trump solely on the basis of the testimony of Trump’s onetime fixer Michael Cohen, because Cohen was an accomplice. However, they can use it if they feel it is corroborated by other evidence.

Between the lines: Deliberations could take several days due to the complexity of the case and the number of counts.

If the jury can’t reach a unanimous decision, a mistrial will be declared.
