Maybe Reid should actually spend some time in Iran.
Former cable news host Joy Reid sparked backlash after arguing the United States is only “marginally better” than Iran and drawing comparisons between American abortion laws and the policies of the Iranian regime.
Appearing on the “One54 Africa” podcast on March 11, Reid made the remarks while discussing global politics and U.S. policy.
“Our regime has secret police. They have secret police,” Reid said. “Our regime is oppressing women, taking away abortion rights … They also oppress women.”
Reid said she was not arguing that Iran’s government is “not bad,” but suggested the two countries operate on a similar moral spectrum.
“So, we’re marginally better,” she said. “And we’re doing it for Christianity. They’re doing it for Islam.”
Reid, whose MSNBC program was canceled last year, has frequently criticized U.S. domestic and foreign policy, but the comparison to Iran — a country widely cited by human rights groups for strict limits on political dissent and women’s rights — marks one of her more insane critiques.
