While delivering remarks at a recent screening of the filmĀ Flamin’ Hot on the South Lawn of the White House, President Biden dropped a stat out of nowhere about Spanish-speaking students in grades K-12 in America.

“You realize that 26 out of every 100 in grades kindergarten through 12 speak Spanish? No, think about it! What in the hellā€”heck are we talking about here?” Biden told an excited crowd.

But that’s not exactly true and online fact-checkers are wondering where Biden got the stat.

PolitiFact checked that same Biden claim back in 2020 and called it “Half True.”

The American Community Survey showed that nationwide, about 17% of all public school students speak Spanish, according to experts at the Pew Research Center.

Florida state Education Department data shows that about 20% of public school students speak Spanish as their native language.
