Russian President Vladimir Putin has launched a full-scale attack on Ukraine, killing dozens of Ukrainian nationals in ruthless airstrikes. The Russian military claims to have wiped out the country’s entire air defenses in a matter of hours, though that claim is unverified.
An Associated Press photographer in Mariupol heard explosions and saw dozens of people with suitcases heading for their cars to leave the city. According to Reuters, Poland is setting up reception points, preparing for refugees, while Hungary is deploying forces to its shared border with Ukraine for security and humanitarian purposes.
Ukraine’s President Volodymyr Zelenskyy warned Russia after it launched an attack on the country overnight Wednesday that for the sake of Ukrainians “freedom,” “lives” and their “children’s lives we will defend ourselves.”
