A Massachusetts nurse who spent days caring for a young infant is now the girl’s mother; agreeing to foster the child after the state gained custody back in October 2016.
“A Massachusetts director of nursing who at the end of each workday took to visiting an infant who had landed in her hospital is now the girl’s mother after she had volunteered to foster her when the state gained custody of her in October 2016. Liz Smith’s daughter, Gisele, was born at 29 weeks gestation in July 2016, and was diagnosed with neonatal abstinence syndrome due to her birth mother’s drug use during pregnancy,” reports Fox News.
“According to Franciscan Children’s blog, Gisele, who was born weighing just under 2 pounds, spent three months in the NICU on ventilator support before she was transferred to Franciscan Children’s, and had developed an oral aversion. The infant had allegedly no visitors during her time at Franciscan Children’s, except for 45-year-old Smith, who herself had recently learned that she was not a good candidate for IVF,” adds the article.

GOOD AND EVIL: Jewish Doctors, Nurses Rushed to Save Synagogue Shooter
A team of Jewish doctors and nurses at Allegheny General Hospital rushed to save the life of alleged Synagogue shooter Robert Bowers over the weekend; tending to the suspect after he opened fire at a nearby House of Worship and killed eleven people.
According to Fox News, “Robert Bowers, 46, was shot multiple times himself and taken to AGH. In addition to killing eight men and three women, he wounded six other people, including four police officers, before surrendering Saturday.”
“He was taken to my hospital and he’s shouting, ‘I want to kill all the Jews’,” Dr. Jeffrey Cohen, president of Allegheny General Hospital and a member of the Tree of Life Synagogue said. “The first three people who took care of him were Jewish.”
“We are here to take care of sick people. We’re not here to judge you. We’re not here to ask ‘Do you have insurance or do you not have insurance?’ We’re here to take care of people who need our help,” he added.
“I said I’m Dr. Cohen, president of the hospital. Then I turned around and left,” said Cohen. “The FBI agent who was guarding him said, ‘I don’t know if I could have done that.’ And I said, ‘If you were in my shoes, I’m sure you could.’”

INTO DARKNESS: Venezuela Thrust into Chaos as Power Goes Out Across the Country
Venezuela was abruptly thrust into total darkness Thursday night as power grids failed across the troubled country, with a crippling blackout impacting 22 out of the nation’s 23 states including the capital Caracas.
“Thousands of commuters had to scramble to find a way back home as subway service stopped operating, while roads came to a standstill due to confusion over blackened stoplights,” writes Fox News. “The blackout forced hospital nurses to monitor patients, including premature babies in incubators, while holding candles.”
Venezuela’s embattled socialist President Nicolas Maduro accused the United States -particularly Florida Sen. Marco Rubio- of perpetrating an “electrical war” against his country.
My apologies to people of Venezuela. I must have pressed the wrong thing on the “electronic attack” app I downloaded from Apple. My bad. https://t.co/5oZURMSnrB
