A former rival could be headed for a front-row seat.
President Donald Trump said Friday he would consider appointing Ron DeSantis to a Cabinet position next year, signaling how far their relationship has evolved since the bruising 2024 primary.
“Well, I like him a lot,” Trump said when asked whether the term-limited Florida governor could land a role in his administration.

The comment underscores a political turnaround. DeSantis once challenged Trump for the Republican nomination, but his campaign faltered early after a distant second-place finish in the Iowa caucuses. He later endorsed Trump, and the two have since aligned on major policy priorities.
Now, DeSantis is emerging as a potential asset in Trump’s governing orbit.
The Florida governor has recently taken steps that could boost the GOP’s national prospects, including advancing a new congressional map to expand Republican strength ahead of the 2026 midterms. The proposal is expected to net Republicans several additional House seats, a key objective as Trump looks to maintain control of Congress.
