President Trump said Tuesday he is extending the U.S. ceasefire with Iran after what he described as a request from Pakistan’s top civilian and military leaders, buying more time for Tehran to produce what he called a “unified proposal.”
The American blockade of Iranian ports remains in place.
In a TRUTH Social post, Trump said Iran’s government is “seriously fractured” and that Pakistan’s Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Asim Munir asked Washington to hold off on renewed military action while Iran’s leadership tries to settle on a negotiating position. He said he has directed the U.S. military to remain ready while continuing the blockade.
Trump is extending the ceasefire, but not relaxing the squeeze.
The move comes as the current two-week truce was nearing its expiration, with uncertainty still hanging over whether Iran will actually send a delegation for another round of talks reportedly expected in Islamabad.
The ceasefire extension may lower the immediate risk of a fresh U.S. strike, but it does not signal a broader reset. Reporting from multiple outlets indicates Iran has objected to the port blockade and views it as incompatible with the spirit of the truce, even as Washington keeps military assets in place and warns that the window for diplomacy is not open indefinitely.
