Democratic insiders are quietly concerned that former Vice President Joe Biden’s 2020 presidential campaign may be too similar to Hillary Clinton’s 2016 run for the White House; saying the top Obama aide has “paid no heed” to lessons learned from her surprise defeat to Donald Trump.
“The opening days of Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s third presidential campaign are giving some Democrats flashbacks to another presidential front-runner: Hillary Clinton,” reports the New York Times.
“As he ramps up his presidential campaign, Mr. Biden appears to have taken some lessons from Mrs. Clinton’s defeat — but paid no heed to others. Even as he structures his campaign around an implicit critique of her general election effort, offering a full-throated appeal to working-class voters at his opening event in a Pittsburgh union hall, Mr. Biden has embraced the kind of incumbent-like, establishment campaign that left Mrs. Clinton open to a fierce primary challenge from Senator Bernie Sanders,” adds the Times.

BIDEN REBUKED: AOC Says Biden Presidency Would be ‘Going Back,’ Vows ‘To Go Forward’
Democratic superstar Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez refused to back former Vice President Joe Biden’s potential presidential run over the weekend; saying the top Obama aide’s win would be “going back” while she hopes to “move forward.”
Ocasio-Cortez was speaking with Yahoo News podcast ‘Skullduggery’ Sunday when she was asked to comment on Biden’s long-rumored White House bid.
That does not particularly animate right now,” said the Congresswoman.
“I can understand why people would be excited by that, this idea that we can go back to the good old days with Obama, with Obama’s vice president. There’s an emotional element to that, but I don’t want to go back. I want to go forward,” she added.
Recent Democrat polling shows Biden slowly losing momentum among supporters, with Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders taking the top spot in the latest surveys.

BIDEN RISING: Insiders Say the Former VP Sees Himself as Democrats’ ‘BEST HOPE’ in 2020
Former Vice President Joe Biden reportedly sees himself as the Democratic Party’s “best hope” for defeating Donald Trump in 2020; with political insiders saying he is in the “final stages” of deciding whether to launch a potential run for the White House.
“Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden Jr. is in the final stages of deciding whether to run for president and has told allies he is skeptical the other Democrats eyeing the White House can defeat President Trump, an assessment that foreshadows a clash between the veteran Washington insider and the more liberal and fresh-faced contenders for the party’s 2020 nomination,” writes the New York Times.
“He has the best chance of beating Trump, hands down,” said Sen. Tom Carper of Delaware.
“In 2020, Biden-style centrism will become a toxic and losing brand of politics in Democratic primaries,” said a progressive activist from the left-wing of the Democratic Party.
