Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi urged her fellow Democrats to unilaterally pass an immigration reform bill without Republican support Friday; saying the legislative log-jam should be solved through “reconciliation.”
“I do believe that immigration should be in the reconciliation, some piece of that, in the reconciliation,” Pelosi told reporters on Friday during a press conference. “We know we have a very good case for this to be included.”
“The provisions would be part of a roughly $3.5 trillion bill that Democrats are still in the process of negotiating. While details of the legislation are still unclear, it’s widely expected to invest billions in an array of planned health, education, environment and social programs as Democrats seek to use the procedural tool known as budget reconciliation to bypass a 60-vote filibuster by Republicans in the Senate,” reports Fox News.
Pelosi’s comments on Friday followed a meeting between President Biden and the top Democrats on whether they should provide a “pathway to citizenship” for ‘Dreamers’ and others illegally living in the United States.
“It went very well,” Biden said after the meeting.

Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders suspended his presidential campaign Wednesday; clearing the path for the Democratic nomination of former Vice President Joe Biden to take on Donald Trump this November.
“Sanders was unable to build on his early momentum in the race after wins in New Hampshire and Nevada as well as virtual tie in Iowa, going on to lose a string of states to Biden after the former vice president consolidated the support of moderate Democrats,” reports the Hill.
