Hawaiian Democratic Senator Brian Schatz is reportedly prepared to unveil a Constitutional Amendment this week that would completely eliminate the use of the Electoral College in deciding the President of the United States.
“Sen. Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii) is set this week to introduce a constitutional amendment to abolish the Electoral College,” reports The Hill. “The amendment is supported by Sens. Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) and Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.). Multiple news outlets confirmed Schatz’s plan.”
The legislation comes just days after Sen. Jeff Merkley introduced a new bill that sought to overhaul the country’s unique election process; using a simple popular vote in choosing the next Commander-in-Chief.
The move is supported by a string of Democratic presidential candidates -including Cory Booker, Beto O’Rourke, Elizabeth Warren, and others- following Hillary Clinton’s loss to Donald Trump in the 2016 race for the White House.

PLAN B: Cory Booker Endorses End of the Electoral College, Says ‘Most Votes’ Should Win
Senator Cory Booker delivered his first televised town hall event on CNN this week; siding with his fellow Democratic challengers and endorsing the end of the Electoral College in future presidential elections.
“My question is: Do you believe that there should be some type of reform to the Electoral College, or should it remain as it is?” asked one audience member.
“Thank you for the question. I believe very simply that in presidential elections, the person with the most votes should be the president of the United States,” said Booker. “But I want to tell you, for us ever to get to a point where we can address that issue, we have got to win this next election under the rules that are there now.”
PLAN B: Elizabeth Warren Officially Calls for the Abolishment of the ELECTORAL COLLEGE
Firebrand Senator and potential 2020 presidential candidate Elizabeth Warren called for the abolishment of the Electoral College Monday night; saying the US needs a “constitutional amendment” to ensure “every vote is counted.”
Warren was speaking with supporters at town hall event in Mississippi when she called for the drastic reconfiguration of the century’s old American election process.
“I believe we need a constitutional amendment that protects the right to vote for every American citizen and makes sure that vote gets counted,” said Warren.
Every vote matters. We need to get rid of the Electoral College so that presidential candidates have to ask every American in every part of the country for their vote, not just those in battleground states. #WarrenTownHall pic.twitter.com/UT3mYHXHQ2

“We need to put some federal muscle behind that, and we need to repeal every one of the voter suppression laws that is out there,” she added. “Every vote matters, and the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting, and that means get rid of the Electoral College.”
