Mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani on Wednesday refused to say that Hamas should lay down its weapons — even as he stood by his promise to arrest Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu if he visits New York City.
The Democratic Socialist also declined to credit President Trump for brokering the Gaza cease-fire, claiming it was “too early to do so.”
Mamdani, 33, went into the lion’s den for a highly anticipated interview with Fox News’ Martha MacCallum, who pressed the vocal critic of Israel on the deal.
The anchor asked if he’d give Trump credit.
“I think it’s too early to do so,” Mamdani said. “But if it proves to be something that is lasting, something that is durable, I think that’s where you go.”
Pressed on whether Hamas should disarm — a key pillar of the agreement the terror group has refused to accept — Mamdani tried to deflect.
“I believe that any future here in New York City is one that we have to make sure that’s affordable for all,” the self-described socialist said, pivoting sharply.
“I don’t really have opinions about the future of Hamas and Israel beyond the question of justice and safety.”
Asked about his vow to have Netanyahu arrested if elected mayor — citing an International Criminal Court warrant — Mamdani doubled down.
He said he would “exhaust every legal option in front of me.”
For a candidate promising justice, it was a master class in evasion.
