'GREAT PROGRESS': Trump Confirms Talks With 'New, and More Reasonable' Iranian Regime

Trump: Deal with Iran “probably” close — or everything gets hit.

President Donald Trump said Monday a deal with Iran was “probably” within reach, but warned the United States would unleash devastating strikes on the regime’s core energy infrastructure if talks collapse.

“The United States of America is in serious discussions with A NEW, AND MORE REASONABLE, REGIME to end our Military Operations in Iran,” Trump wrote on TRUTH Social, signaling optimism while keeping pressure high.

He paired that optimism with a stark ultimatum. If a deal is not reached “shortly,” Trump said the U.S. would “blow up and completely obliterate” Iran’s electric generating plants, oil wells, and Kharg Island — the critical hub that handles the vast majority of the country’s oil exports.

Trump emphasized those targets have so far been spared, despite earlier threats tied to an April 6 deadline.

“This will be in retribution for our many soldiers, and others, that Iran has butchered and killed over the old Regime’s 47-year Reign of Terror,” he said.

The warning followed comments late Sunday in which Trump said the U.S. was negotiating both “directly and indirectly” with Iran, suggesting multiple diplomatic channels remain open even as military pressure builds.

He also floated a dramatic escalation: the possibility of seizing Kharg Island outright — effectively taking control of Iran’s oil exports.

“Maybe we take Kharg Island, maybe we don’t,” Trump said, adding, “We have a lot of options.”

At the same time, Trump underscored the scale of potential military action, saying the U.S. still has roughly 3,000 targets it could strike inside Iran. But he insisted a deal remains the preferred outcome.

“A deal could be made fairly quickly,” he said.

The urgency is tied in part to the Strait of Hormuz’s strategic importance as one of the world’s most critical oil chokepoints. Trump has given Tehran a 10-day deadline to reopen the strait, whose disruption has sent oil prices surging by as much as 50%.

Meanwhile, the U.S. is reinforcing its position in the region. Over the weekend, roughly 3,500 Marines and sailors arrived aboard the USS Tripoli, which Trump has indicated could be used to secure the strait and potentially target Iranian nuclear infrastructure if needed.
