GRANT GOES DOWN: Protesters Destroy San Francisco Statue of Union General Ulysses Grant

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.23.20

Anti-police protesters in San Francisco, California toppled a statue of former President and Union General Ulysses Grant; the legendary leader who defeated Confederate General Robert E. Lee during the Civil War.

“Protesters in San Francisco on Friday toppled the statue of former President Grant, who led the Union Army during the Civil War, in Golden Gate Park,” reports The Hill. “San Francisco police said that approximately 400 people gathered around 8 p.m. to take down the statue, though no arrests were made, according to NBC Bay Area.”

“Grant did in fact own a man named William Jones for about a year on the eve of the Civil War,” Sean Kane, interpretations and programs specialist at the American Civil War Museum, said in an article. “In 1859, Grant either bought or was given the 35-year-old Jones, who was in Grant’s service until he freed him before the start of the War.”

BYE GEORGE: Portland Protesters Topple Statue of Washington, Cover with ‘F*** Cops’ Graffiti

posted by Hannity Staff - 6.19.20

Anti-police protesters in Portland, Oregon toppled a statue of George Washington overnight Thursday just days after removing a memorial to Thomas Jefferson; raising more questions over safety and security across the city.

Protesters in Portland toppled a memorial honoring Founding Father and author of the Declaration of Independence Thomas Jefferson; toppling the monument and smashing the statue with a hammer as onlookers cheered.

“Thomas Jefferson Statue toppled in Portland,” posted the Daily Caller on social media.

Seattle’s embattled Police Chief had an “epiphany” over the weekend after attending George Floyd protests; saying “policing will never be the same.”

“I was looking at the 60,000 people that were there, signs saying, you know, defund the police, stop police brutality, you know, no qualified immunity. And there were thousands of people carrying those particular signs,” said Chief Carmen Best.

“And I just realized it was a moment, an epiphany, that this is a pivotal moment in history. We are going to move in a different direction and policing will never be the same as it was before,” she added.

“We need to re-imagine and re-figure out how we’re going to move forward as a country and as an organization to make things better for everybody,” she said during the interview with “Face the Nation.”

CAMPUS REVOLT: New York Students Demand Removal of ‘Racist’ Thomas Jefferson Statue

posted by Hannity Staff - 4.02.19

Student activists from Long Island’s Hofstra University -the site of former presidential debates- demanded the removal of a Thomas Jefferson statue over the weekend; saying the founding father’s memorial represents “racism and slavery.”

Students participated Friday in the second annual ‘Jefferson Has Gotta Go!’ event over the statue that has been subject to protests and acts of vandalism in the past, with some previously defacing it with ‘DECOLONIZE’ and ‘Black Lives Matter’ slogans,” reports Fox News.

“Jefferson’s values aided in the construction of institutionalized racism and justified the subjugation of black people in the United States,” the petition read. “Jefferson has been embraced as an icon by white supremacist and neo-nazi organizations such as the Ku Klux Klan and online white supremacist chat rooms.”

“Yes, the removal of the statue is important, but it is about what the statue represents: a legacy of racism and bigotry on college campuses,” added one activist.
