This week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the U.S. is prepared to move on from Russian-Ukrainian peace talks if the stall continues.
“We are now reaching a point where we need to decide whether this is even possible or not,” Rubio told reporters Friday while departing from negotiations with his counterparts in Paris. “Because if it’s not, then I think we’re just going to move on.”
“It’s not our war. We have other priorities to focus on,” he added, suggesting the U.S. would decide if continued talks were “doable” in a “matter of days.”
Rubio continued: “The Ukraine war is a terrible thing but it’s not our war…The president has spent 87 days at the highest level of his government, repeatedly taking efforts to bring this war to an end. We are now reaching a point where we need to decide and determine whether this is even possible or not, which is why we‘re engaging both sides.”
