During a recent interview with CBS Washington Correspondent Major Garrett, California Governor Gavin Newsom conceded that Democrats are getting “destroyed” on midterm messaging and the party has to do better.
He also sees the red wave coming.
“We’re getting crushed on the narrative. We’re going to have to do better in terms of getting on the offense and stop being on the damn defense,” Newsom told Garrett, explaining his “fundamental grievance” with his party’s leaders.
“Does it feel like a red wave?” Garrett asked the governor. “Yeah, of course it does,” Newsom replied.
From The Daily Mail:
Other Democrats, including Newsom’s aunt Speaker Nancy Pelosi, have been more optimistic in their projections of next week’s elections, swatting away assertions that Republicans will sweep the House and possibly the Senate.
“I’m not paid to say that. I’m paid to say, you know, ‘fate and feel.’ I mean, I get it. Look, I mean, I could be the cheerleader. I’m also pragmatic, you feel it,” he said.
Newsom has been circulated as a presidential candidate in 2024 if 79-year-old Biden does not run again, and he’s recently picked fights with his GOP counterparts by running ads in states like Florida and Texas.
