Another radical, pro-crime stance from Mamdani…
Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch on Wednesday defended the NYPD’s gang database as essential in addressing rising gang violence in the Bronx — even as Democratic mayoral front-runner Zohran Mamdani has pledged to dismantle it.
“Much of the violence of what we’ve seen over the last few weeks in the Bronx is gang-related — we know who the gang members are thanks to a Criminal Group database and know where they operate,” Tisch said on 1010 Wins. “We know who the people are and are going after them.”
Mamdani, a socialist lawmaker from Queens, joined several council members in 2022 calling for the database’s abolition and doubled down on that position during this year’s primary.
Appearing with Mayor Eric Adams, Tisch also downplayed recent shootings as statistical outliers. “Our shooting incidents in the borough of the Bronx are down 20%,” she said. “The shootings in the borough of the Bronx is trending down.”
Adams echoed that view, blaming high-profile incidents for fueling unease despite overall declines. “We’re clear that some of these high-profile shootings with multiple victims, it just creates a feeling of unsafe and we have been focusing on that,” he said. “But the numbers don’t lie, the city is still the safest big city in the country.”
