New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio slammed tech-giant Amazon over the weekend; claiming their decision to abandon plans for a Big Apple headquarters was an example of “abuse of corporate power.”
“This is an example of an abuse of corporate power,” said de Blasio on ‘Meet the Press’ Sunday. “Amazon just took their ball and went home. And what they did was confirm people’s worst fears about corporate America.”
“They said they wanted a partnership, but the minute there were criticisms, they walked away,” he added. “What does that say to working people that a company would leave them high and dry simply because some people raised criticisms?”

AMAZON VS AOC: Tech Giant SLAMS Cortez, Says Couldn’t Work In This 'Environment’
Tech giant Amazon lashed-out at Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Friday; blasting the self-described Democratic-Socialist after announcing their plans to abandon its New York City headquarters.
“If you talk to Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, it’s ‘Never Amazon,'” said Jodi Seth, the head of the policy communications for Amazon. “If you talk to [New York City Councilman Jimmy] Van Bramer, it’s unions.”
“It was that the environment over the course of the past three months had not got any better. There were some local and state elected officials who refused to meet with Amazon and criticized us day in and day out about the plan,” she added.

ANTI-AMAZON: New Yorkers Fume, Protest New Amazon Headquarters in Queens
New York City Council Members and furious residents ripped Amazon executives during a high-stakes meeting in the Big Apple this week; blasting the massive tax breaks given by the city and state governments.
“The council members, who have no vote on the project and no apparent path to block it, demanded to know why the city and New York state were offering Amazon up to $2.8 billion in tax breaks and grants to build the new headquarters in the Long Island City neighborhood of Queens,” writes Fox 5.
“We have a crumbling subway system, record homelessness, public housing that is in crisis, overcrowded schools, sick people without health insurance and an escalating affordable crisis,” said Democrat City Council Speaker Corey Johnson. “Is anyone asking if we should be giving nearly $3 billion in public money to the world’s richest company, valued at $1 trillion?”
Amazon executives told the crowd the new project would have a “positive economic impact” of $186 billion over a 25-year period.
