President Trump warned Congressional leaders Friday that the White House was “totally prepared” for a “very long shutdown” should they fail to reach a budget deal; saying this may be “our only chance” to get “great border security.”
The President was speaking with reporters during a signing ceremony for his Criminal Reform Justice Bill when he weighed-in on the potential shutdown as the Friday deadline loomed closer.

“Now it’s up to the Democrats as to whether or not we have a shutdown tonight. I hope we don’t, but we’re totally prepared for a very long shutdown. This is our only chance that we’ll ever have because of the world and the way it works out, to get great border security,” said the president.
DNC DISASTER: Republicans GAIN in NEW POLLS After ‘Schumer Shutdown’
New polling shows Republicans heading into the pivotal 2018 midterm elections with the wind at their backs; erasing Democratic gains for the first time since last spring as President Trump’s approval ratings continue to rise.
According to Politico, President Trump’s job performance inched higher following a disastrous month for Democrats; with House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer caving on DACA, the budget, and the government shutdown.
“Fully 39 percent of registered voters say they would support the GOP candidate for Congress in their district, while 38 percent would back the Democratic candidate. Nearly a quarter of voters, 23 percent, are undecided,” writes Politico.
The polls show GOP candidates wiping out Democratic gains in recent months, shrinking their ten point generic advantage to a one point deficit against their Republican opponents.
The new data also shows President Trump’s approval rating matching his disapproval rating at 47%.
“Not only have Republicans increased support on the generic congressional ballot, they are now trusted more to handle the most important issue when voters head to the polls: the economy,” Morning Consult’s co-founder told Politico.
CNN SHUTDOWN: Sanders SILENCES April Ryan Over 'RESIGNATION' Question
White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders shot-down CNN’s April Ryan Tuesday, telling the reporter her question was “absolutely ridiculous” after she asked if President Trump was considering resigning from office.
“The President said yesterday he was complying, they turned over a million documents. If he was complying with the investigation why was there a search warrant?” asked Ryan.
“This doesn’t have anything to do with the President… When it comes to matters of the special counsel and dealing with the President we’ve been fully cooperative,” fired-back Sanders.
“With all of this turmoil, particularly this last week, has the President at any time thought about stepping down, before or now?” pressed the CNN White House correspondent.
“No, and I think that’s an absolutely ridiculous question,” concluded the Press Secretary.
