Dr. Anthony Fauci popped up on ABC News’ This Week on Sunday to discuss the efficacy of masks and says to prepare for an uptick in the virus this winter.
“There’s no doubt, as you know and reported just a moment ago, we’re having an uptick in cases, which is being reflected by an uptick about 17 or more percent in hospitalizations. … And since we’re now at the end of the summer, it is likely that that will increase as we get into the fall and the winter. So, we need to be prepared for it,” Fauci said.
“People who have been vaccinated, boosted, people who have been infected like you and I, where we have hybrid immunity, the chances of this being an overwhelming rush of cases and hospitalizations is probably low,” said Fauci, now a Georgetown University professor.
Fauci said that while he isn’t “alarmed” by the rise in the number of cases, “I’m certainly keeping an eye on it.” He added that “there’s no doubt that this is going on, and since we’re now at the end of the summer it is likely that it will increase as we get into the fall and the winter, we need to be prepared for it.”
As for his thoughts on masks mandates returning, Fauci says “I can see that if we get a significant uptick in cases that you may see the recommendation that masks be used under certain circumstances and indoor crowded settings, but … certainly not federal mandates,” he said. “I would be extremely surprised if we would see that.”
Conservative commentator and radio host Buck Sexton shared a clip from the interview, saying “Fauci is a sociopathic cult leader who will never admit everything he said about Covid was bulls–t. He would do it all again tomorrow if he could. Here he is defending the indefensible, as always.”
