Porter came for the spotlight, but couldn’t handle the heat.
California gubernatorial hopeful Katie Porter snapped and tried to storm out of an interview after being asked a simple question about President Trump — barking, “I don’t want this all on camera.”
The irritated ex-congresswoman — once accused of dumping steaming mashed potatoes on her husband’s head — was caught on tape pulling the plug on a CBS sit-down last month.
Leaked footage, released Tuesday, shows Porter melting down when reporter Julie Watts asked how she planned to win Republican votes in her bid to replace Gov. Gavin Newsom.
“What do you say to the 40% of California voters, who you’ll need in order to win, who voted for Trump?”
After a brief, tense exchange, Porter snapped.
“I feel like this is unnecessarily argumentative. What is your question?” she shot back.
Watts calmly replied, “Every other candidate has answered this question. This is not argumentative.”
When the question was repeated, Porter started unhooking her mic.
“I don’t want to keep doing this. I’m going to call it,” she said. “I want to have a pleasant, positive conversation… And if every question you’re going to make up a follow-up question, then we’re never going to get there.”
“I don’t want this all on camera,” she added.
Porter ended with, “I’ve never had to do this before,” claiming she’d never walked out of an interview. Critics quickly pounced, noting that the self-styled interrogator who built her brand grilling witnesses on Capitol Hill suddenly couldn’t take a few follow-ups herself.
Porter’s campaign later stated that the interview continued for another 20 minutes, although CBS has not confirmed when — or if — it will air.
