EXCLUSIVE POLL: Romney Under Pressure, Utah Voters Want Fast Acquittal, No More Witnesses

Our friend, and frequent guest, pollster Matt Towery has taken the time to put together this poll on Utah Senator Mitt Romney. Towery’s results show us exactly how the Senator’s constituents feel about his position during this impeachment trial. Look here at Towery’s findings and the reaction of Utah voters:

Majority of Utah Republican Voters Oppose New Witnesses in Impeachment Trial; Less Likely to Support Romney for Re-election if Romney votes for Witnesses

A Towery Survey of 400 registered voters who voted in recent Utah Republican primaries shows Utah Republicans wanting President Donald Trump to be acquitted and indicates potential major tension between Sen. Mitt Romney and Utah Republicans should Romney decide to vote to call more witnesses in the impeachment trial.

The poll is exclusive to The Sean Hannity Show. It is weighted for age, race, and gender.

When respondents were asked how they would like to see their two U.S. Senators vote in the trial, the results were:

Vote to acquit President Trump: 68%

Vote to convict President Trump: 26%

Undecided: 6%

 

When asked if they support or oppose the calling of additional  witnesses in the Senate trial, the results were:

Oppose additional witnesses: 64%

Support additional witnesses: 27%

Undecided: 9%

 

When asked if they would be more or less likely to support Sen. Mitt Romney for the GOP nomination in a bid for re-election to the Senate if he voted to include new witnesses in the Senate trial the results were:

Less likely to support Romney: 60%

More likely to support Romney: 26%

It would have no impact on their vote: 10%

Undecided: 4%

 

By a 47%-to-31% level, Utah Republicans stated that if Romney voted to include additional witnesses, Trump should endorse another Republican in Romney’s re-election bid.

The telephone survey was conducted Jan 27-28 and has a margin of error of plus or minus 5%.

This appearance was just days before the 2016 election. Over the years Towery has polled for news organizations ranging from broadcast affiliates as well as online news organizations such as Politico and Newsmax. Fortunately for us, Towery came out of retirement to provide polls and polling analysis for The Sean Hannity Show.

Towery had this to say about his Utah survey’s findings:

“It is pretty clear that well over a majority of Republicans in Utah want the impeachment trial over and the president acquitted. More importantly, they don’t want more witnesses to be included in the trial.

As for Mitt Romney, it is very clear that Republicans in his state do not want him voting to allow for more witnesses in the impeachment trial. Nearly 60% said they would be less likely to support him in his next primary and nearly 50% said President Trump should not endorse him in his next election if Romney chooses to vote for more witnesses in the trial.

There is a solid 26% or so who oppose Trump and stick with Romney no matter what the issue might be and that is to be expected in Utah. But what is shocking is the vast numbers who support Trump but would consider rejecting Romney if Romney pushes more witnesses.”
