Chinese musicians reportedly performed an instrumental rendition of the Y.M.C.A. during Thursday’s state dinner honoring President Donald Trump, according to a source familiar with the event.
The disco anthem by Village People has become inseparable from Trump’s political brand after serving as one of the defining soundtrack songs of his presidential campaigns and rallies.
For years, Trump has famously danced along to the song at campaign stops, rallies, and victory events — often drawing massive crowd reactions and viral social media clips.
The unexpected musical choice added a surreal dose of Americana to the formal Chinese state banquet, where diplomacy and disco briefly collided.
