Incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez weighed-in on the current state of the US healthcare system over the weekend; saying the country “lags behind the modern world” and a ‘Medicare for All’ program would ultimately save over $5 trillion.
“Reminder to my fellow millennials to get your act together & buy insurance before tonight’s deadline. Is open enrollment a pain? Yes. Is it expensive? Yes. But it’s WAY better than being uninsured (been there) & reason enough to fight for #MedicareForAll,” she tweeted.
“It’s important to be honest about the fact that US healthcare is terrible and lags far behind the modern world. The good news: #MedicareForAll can save the US $5.1 trillion over a decade while drastically cutting working-class Americans’ health spending,” she added.

Cortez found herself in hot-water from major media publications just days ago, when she claimed Pentagon spending-errors could largely pay for her universal healthcare proposals.
BERNIE’S BLUFF: Sanders Claims ‘Medicare for All’ Would ‘SAVE $2 TRILLION’
Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders refused to accept a recent study that showed his “medicare for all” program would cost US taxpayers over $32 trillion; releasing a new video that claims universal healthcare would actually save $2 trillion over ten years.
Sanders released the video on social media just hours after a George Mason University study estimated the astronomical price-tag associated with the potential proposal; finding it would likely cost over $32.6 trillion.

“The study shows that ‘Medicare for All’ would save the American people $2 trillion over a ten year period… That’s what was in the study,” said Sanders.

FACT CHECK: NY Times RIPS Cortez’ Claim Pentagon Could Pay $32T 'Medicare for All'
Even the mainstream media piled on incoming Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ recent comments that Pentagon spending errors could largely fund a ‘Medicare for All’ healthcare system; with the New York Times calling the claim ‘misleading.’
“Representative-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, the rising liberal star, cited a figure that refers to nearly two decades of internal financial adjustments, not actual spending,” writes the Times.
“For starters, the combined Pentagon budget from 1998 to 2015 was $9.2 trillion. One study by a libertarian economic think tank found that ‘Medicare for all’ legislation by Senator Bernie Sanders, independent of Vermont, would cost the federal government $32.6 trillion over 10 years,” adds the author.
$21 TRILLION of Pentagon financial transactions “could not be traced, documented, or explained.”
$21T in Pentagon accounting errors. Medicare for All costs ~$32T.
That means 66% of Medicare for All could have been funded already by the Pentagon.
And that’s before our premiums. https://t.co/soT6GSmDSG

The point, I think, was more about how we care so little about the ‘how do you pay for it’ when we are talking about war and military spending,” said a spokesperson for Ocasio-Cortez.
