Rep. Ocasio-Cortez continued to defend her recently unveiled ‘Green New Deal’ from widespread criticism Thursday night; saying the proposal is not a “massive government takeover” but rather the “release of federal investments.”
Cortez was speaking with MSNBC’s Chuck Todd when she deflected GOP criticism of her massive entitlement program; claiming the party was “mischaracterizing” the proposal.
“I think one way that the right does try to mischaracterize what we’re doing as though it’s like some kind of massive government takeover,” said Cortez. “Obviously it’s not that because what we’re trying to do is release the investments from the federal government to mobilize those resources across the country.”

GOING GREEN: Top Democrats Voice Support for Ocasio-Cortez’ ‘Green New Deal’
A growing chorus of congressional Democrats are throwing their weight behind Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’ ‘Green New Deal’ program; indicating the party is lurching left heading into the 2020 presidential election.
According to Fox News, eight potential Democratic candidates for the presidency have voiced their support for Cortez’ ‘Green New Deal.’ The program would drastically limit the amount of fossil fuels permitted in the United States and create a massive federal jobs program similar to Franklin Roosevelt’s ‘New Deal’ during the Great Depression.
“It’s time to go big on this issue with bold solutions. I welcome a Green New Deal and am excited to offer additional ideas to create meaningful jobs and address the crisis of climate change,” said Rep. Eric Swalwell.
Senators Warren and Booker are also getting behind the new entitlement program.
“We must take bold action on climate change & create a green economy that benefits all Americans. Thank you to @sunrisemvmt & activists for your inspiring work. Excited to support a #GreenNewDeal,” tweeted Sen. Booker in December.
