Over the weekend, Colombia President Gustavo Petro attempted to reject a deportation flight from the U.S. containing criminal migrants. Trump quickly took to TRUTH Social to announce consequences for Colombia, including tariffs and travel bans.
President Donald Trump also seemingly handled it all from the golf course!
“I was just informed that two repatriation flights from the United States, with a large number of Illegal Criminals, were not allowed to land in Colombia,” Trump wrote Sunday.
“This order was given by Colombia’s Socialist President Gustavo Petro, who is already very unpopular amongst his people,” he said, adding that Petro’s decision has “jeopardized the National Security and Public Safety of the United States.”
In response, Trump said he would enact the “emergency 25% tariffs on all goods coming into the United States” — and claimed he’d raise it to 50% in a week.
“These measures are just the beginning,” Trump said. “We will not allow the Colombian Government to violate its legal obligations with regard to the acceptance and return of the Criminals they forced into the United States!”
President Petro quickly reversed course, ultimately agreeing to accept the flights and assist the Trump Administration using Colombia’s presidential plane.
“The Government of Colombia, under the direction of President Gustavo Petro, has arranged the presidential plane to facilitate the dignified return of the compatriots who were going to arrive in the country today in the morning, coming from deportation flights,” a translated official statement read in part.
In a follow-up post to TRUTH Social, Trump shared an AI-generated image of himself next to a sign that said “FAFO” — which stands for “F–k around, find out.”
X account Cynical Publius shared a look at how Trump cut through the red tape and got Colombia to accept the migrant flights almost immediately.
“To fully understand just how remarkable today’s exchange with Colombia was, you need to understand how Washington DC has traditionally worked through these sorts of issues, and the different way it works now under Trump. I’ll illustrate,” Publius shared, before comparing the traditional approach vs. the Trump approach.
