According to a CNN report, a deal to release Israeli hostages taken by Hamas could be reached as early as today, a diplomatic source and another source familiar with the Qatar-mediated talks told the news outlet.
From The New York Post:
The negotiations may land on an agreement to release the civilian hostages in exchange for a pause in fighting, the sources said — adding that the talks are becoming increasingly optimistic.
“It’s very close,” a senior US official told the outlet.
The deal would mean the release of 50 women and children hostages, and a four-to-five day pause in fighting, according to CNN.
Israel Defense Forces (IDF) say at least 1,200 Israelis have been killed since Hamas’ Oct. 7 sneak attack on Israel from the Gaza Strip, prompting the Jewish nation to declare war.
